Happy Hour at Hanabi

Hanabi has an extensive happy hour menu making it my favorite happy hour in North Austin. Their executive chef is Chef Choo formerly the executive chef at Beluga, Osaka and Afin. Owners Sunny Kim and John Yoo are hands on and usually can be found greeting guests and working alongside their employees at the restaurant.

If you prefer nigiri you will be especially pleased with the happy hour sushi specials with its variety of fish offerings ranging from $1.50-$2.50 a piece. I usually order a variety of happy hour priced nigiri to include madai, sake toro, hamachi, albacore and mackerel. The plank of beautiful nigiri is meticulously paired with items such as shiso leaves, ginger and garlic to compliment the fish.  Often people equate happy hour sushi as lower quality. This is absolutely not the case at Hanabi. Their happy hour priced nigiri is the same quality of excellent cuts of fresh fish you will find on their regular sushi menu.

I recently dined in for happy hour to try the 72 hours miso sake which is one of their specialities. During happy hour the generous portion of miso sake is a steal at $8.95. The dish came out beautifully dressed with vibrant green cilantro-gochujang ponzu sauce contrasted with radish, fresh cilantro and a light dusting of chili powder. The marinade of miso sake enriches the flavor of the tender pieces of salmon. The flavors of rich fatty salmon pairs well with the salty roe and hints of both honey and cilantro.

Hanabi\’s happy hour has a nice selection of rolls and cooked menu items like harumaki and seafood gyoza. They also offer drink specials during happy hour to include:
