Flatwater, the Austin-based nonprofit organization that covers the cost of mental health services for those touched by cancer announced details on their annual fundraising event, Flatwater’s Dam That Cancer presented by TYLER’S. This years benefit will take place on Monday, September 11, 2023.
This year marks the 14th annual Dam That Cancer, the premier fundraising event for Flatwater, in which 230 select participants will complete a 21-mile course from Lake Austin’s Mansfield Dam to Tom Miller Dam to benefit the Foundation’s mission of providing mental health therapy for Central Texans impacted by cancer. Following a record-breaking 2022 event that raised over $1.2 million, this year’s paddlers have committed to raising $1.3 million to support the ever-growing demand for mental health services for those taking on a cancer diagnosis.
Flatwater’s Dam That Cancer Presented by TYLER’S is the premier fundraising event for Flatwater. Flatwater is an Austin-based nonprofit that provides mental health therapy in the wake of cancer. We connect individuals with therapists to help clear their mind, heal their body, and find the strength to take on a diagnosis.
On September 11th, Lake Austin will provide the stunning backdrop for the 14th annual 21-mile stand-up paddle + party event. In May, the 2023 crew of 230 paddlers will be announced – each one handpicked from a list of hundreds of applicants. Past participants have included Olympic medalists such as Trey Hardee, Kristine Lilly, Aaron Peirsol, Eric Shanteau, and Brendan Hansen, as well as three-time Stanley Cup champion Chris Chelios, and influential Austin business owners, C-level executives, and cancer survivors. The common thread among all participants is to provide a ray of hope for people affected by cancer through the services of Flatwater.
The demand for therapy is greater than ever, and we aim to surpass our record-breaking 2022 event that raised over $1.2M for Flatwater. With your support, we know that our lofty $1.3M goal is achievable!
After the 10-hour, 21-mile paddle, all of Austin is invited to the DTC post-paddle party at the LCRA Redbud Center, within walking distance of the Hula Hut finish line.
