GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the GO TEXAN organization and the 7th anniversary of the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up. This year the food centric event runs from July 21-27.

What is GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up? It is an annual week long, state wide event where the community is encouraged to dine out at participating restaurants. The event offers a unique opportunity to enjoy cuisine showcasing locally produced food and drinks promoting our Texas farmers and ranchers. The participating restaurants donate nearly $40,000 to local area food banks.

My employer Farm Credit Bank of Texas has sponsored the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up for the past 7 years and I was thrilled to attend the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up Kick-Off event. Farm Credit is a network of borrower-owned lending cooperatives and specialized service organizations that provides credit and other related services for agriculture and rural America.

During the kick-off event participants included ALC Steaks, Carmelo\’s Italian, Quality Seafood, Parkside, The Backspace, Searsucker, Tiny Pies, Dock & Roll and H-E-B. The restaurants offered complimentary bites using locally sourced ingredients. In addition there are many other restaurants participating during the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up throughout the state.

Some of the exciting dishes that will be offered during the Round-Up include menu items like grilled quail with strawberries, spring onion and cashew with ingredients from Bandera, Poteet and Johnson\’s Backyard Garden at the Carillon.

Texas Wineries to include Dry Comal Creek, Llano Estacado, Messina Hof and Pleasant Hill sampled their refreshing wines during the kick-off. Several restaurants like Cafe Josie are pairing Texas sourced cuisine with Texas wines during the Round-Up.
