2018 City Guide to Poke in Austin

Poké has become more prevalent over the past couple years and I for one am a huge fan! Yearly I contribute to the AFBA City Guide with an updated sushi guide and decided to take on poké this year as well. Here is a mouthwatering look at some of the poké our wonderful city has to offer:

Ola Poke

Ola Poke serves up their bowls in the different sizes. They are also know for their kimchi fries, Korean fried wings and hibachi entrees. 
Poke Bay

Hours: Monday – Saturday 11am-9pm, Sunday Closed

Poké Bay located on the Drag is a favorite among UT students. In addition to loaded poké bowls they make hearty Hawaiian BBQ dishes.

Poke Fit

Poke Fit opened this year bringing some of the best area poke to the Leander community. This hip poke shop not only serve build-your-own Hawaiian-style sushi bowls, they also have a variety of tantalizing starters with the Fried Brussels Sprouts being some of the best I have tasted! Poke Fit is BYOB/APPLE & ANDROID-PAY-friendly. The hip modern decor and comfortable atmosphere will make you want to stay long enough for dessert.

Poke House claims to serve delicious Hawaiian poke made using only the highest-quality, sustainably sourced fish. Each poke bowl is customized to your liking and comes packed with fresh flavor.

You can find Poke Me with their cleverly named menu options and fresh fish in East Austin. I recently met one of the owners who I found to be kind and passionate at what he does. I like their ahi tuna in a waterfall bowl topped with the spicy doggy style marinade.

Owners Trish and Jason opened the first Poké-Poké location in LA back in 2010. They discovered the Hawaiian dish while visiting O\’aha just six months earlier. 6 months later they opened on Venice Beach. And today, they are bringing creative ahi poke to both Los Angeles and Austin! They were one of the first to hit the Austin scene with their bright blue beachy decor and perfectly marinated fish.

Pokeatery aims to provide a variety of choices from a more traditional poke with onion, limu, lightly sauced with our original sauce and some Hawaiian salt, or the works with every choice and a mix of our signature sauces. They also swirl up their famous Dole Whip.
The Bug Kahuna

Not only is the poke the best I have ever tasted, presentation is beautiful and the owner is both hospitable and funny. I got the ahi poke with sticky rice and a side. The portions are generous and oh my is the poke good!! We did byob and had a wonderful dining experience in yes, a food trailer park. I highly recommend. Come check them out at their trailer in 5000 Burnet Food Park.

Honest Mary’s

While not a full on poke spot, Honest Mary\’s serves up gorgeous bowls made with quality ingredients. I hear the poke bowl they serve is superb.
