Omakase Experience at Sakura Sushi

Blue & Golden POY at Sakura on Omakase

Full Disclosure: I received a complimentary experience at Sakura Sushi. All opinions are my own.

In Japan Omakase means, I am leaving it up to you. Omakase leaves the choice to the chef who presents a series of coursed dishes that showcase the chefs creativity and craft. I recently was invited to experience Omakase at Sakura Sushi, an inviting restaurant in Lakeway serving up both Japanese and Chinese cuisine. During my culinary journey I witnessed Executive Chef Po as well as the entire team great regular dining guests who often visit once or more a week. I met up with one of my favorite dining companions and we indulged in a delightful feast and show as Chef Po and team proudly delivered each dish. Omakase is offered every other Tuesday currently and the menu will change giving the chefs an opportunity to have some fun with off menu offerings. Omakase at Sakura runs $100 for typically 10 unique dishes and a dessert. Here is a look at our Omakase at Sakura.

We were greeted with two perfectly shucked Pacific Oysters (pictured above) on a pillow of fine ice. The duo was a Blue and a Golden Oyster in a refreshing ponzu sauce.
Japanese Snapper at Sakura on Omakase

Dish 2 was my absolute favorite! I love Japanese Snapper and this gorgeous dish did not disappoint. the tender cuts of Japanese Snapper sashimi was wrapped around baby cilantro swimming in  vibrant yuzu & olive oil sauce.
Jalapeño Hamachi at Sakura on Omakase

Dish 3 was also a fan favorite. The Jalapeño Hamachi paired perfectly with the fried leeks and garlic ponzu sauce.

Lotus and Cucumber Land Rolls at Sakura
Dish 4 & 5 were smaller portions of mainstay rice less rolls that I would easily order again. To the left is the Lotus roll with salmon, escolar, fresh spring mix, creamy avocado, pickled cucumber, wrapped in rice paper plated with ponzu, yuzu vinaigrette and finished with tobiko. The roll is a burst of delicious flavors. The Cucumber Land is a sashimi style roll with clean flavors of spring mix, tuna, salmon, hamachi snow crab, topped with masago paired with a delightful house made sauce.
Baked Fatty Salmon at Sakura on Omakase
Dish 6 was a bowl of true comfort. The Baked Fatty Salmon is the good kind of fat with fresh avocado, an appealing cucumber salad and perfectly cooked rice.
Bluefin Tuna, Hamachi and Ora King Salmon Nigiri at Sakura
Dish 7 made this sushi loving gal happy. The lineup of nigiri included the best at the sushi bar and were amazingly tender cuts of: Bluefin Tuna, Hamachi topped with real wasabi and Ora King Salmon.
Sweet Shrimp with Ikura at Sakura on Omakase

We were sweet on dish 8, Sweet Shrimp topped with Ikura. I am not usually a fan of sweet shrimp nigiri but this was the exception. The salty Ikura nicely balanced the flavors.

Blackened Ahi Tuna, Sea Bass at Sakura on Omakase

Course 9 & 10 we enjoyed Blackened Ahi Tuna, Sea Bass and their oh so delicious Garlic Edamame. The fish felt light and healthy and we could not stop eating those garlicky edamame.

Notably Sakura Sushi has a enticing daily happy hour from 4:3pm-6:30pm and is open for both lunch and dinner 7 days a week.
