Known for working in Austin kitchens such as Lenoir, Kuneho and Thai Kun, Chef Li will take over the Fierce Whiskers tasting room to take guests through an omakase-style dinner inspired by the “food of our mothers” with Korean Ssam-style dishes paired with three Fierce Whiskers cocktails. WHAT: For the next installment of their Chef Dinner Series, Fierce Whiskers Distillery is excited to host Chef Mia Li for the Matriarch Dinner on Sunday, December 11 at 5:00 and 7:00 p.m. inside the Fierce Whiskers Tasting Room. Chef Mia Li will take guests through an omakase-style dinner inspired by the “food of our mothers” with Korean Ssam-style dishes. Menu highlights will include Wontons filled with rock shrimp and hearts of palm served in tomato + tamarind water with dehydrated fermented soy bean hot oil, whole fish and crispy pork belly served Ssam style with banchan and kabocha and kaya for dessert. The Fierce Whiskers team will also use the inspiration of history and matriarchs to create unique cocktails to pair with the menu items.
Born in California to Southeast Asian parents, Chef Mia learned how to cook from her grandparents and began cultivating her skills in the kitchen at an early age. After completing her culinary degree from the prestigious Johnson & Wales University, she went on to experience professional cooking in a range of environments, from food trucks to Michelin-starred restaurants like Saison. She developed her career while working for James Beard winning chefs, Jennifer Jasinski, Melissa Kelly and Paul Qui. As a local chef, she is beloved and known for helming Austin kitchens like Lenoir, Kuneho and Thai Kun.
