Vic & Al\’s Serving Cajun Cuisine at the Historic Scoot Inn

Vic & Al\’s

Full disclosure: I attended a friends and family dinner and received a complimentary meal. All opinions are my own.

The talented Nic Patrizi opens yet another superb culinary venture with his new trailer Vic & Al\’s. Vic & Al\’s opened last week serving elevated Cajun cuisine inside Austin\’s Historic Scoot Inn. The heart of their menu is based from cochon de lait, a slow-roasted suckling pig. The dishes are made from scratch to include grinding their own boudin, curing their own bacon, making their own cheeses and muddling their own file for gumbos. Vic & Al\’s fits right in as the gorgeous sprawling patio at the Scoot inn is the perfect place to indulge in fine Cajun cuisine and cold adult beverages in east Austin.

We had the opportunity to taste our way through the menu and get a glimpse of Nic\’s vision for Vic & Al\’s.

Eggplant Sott\’Olio at Vic & Al\’s

We started off our dining experience with the light and fresh Eggplant Sott\’Olio. The pickled vegetables make for a delightful dish for the warm Texas months.

Mustard Greens Salad with Tasso Ham at Vic & Al\’s

The brilliantly balanced Mustard Greens salad has hints of garlic topped with smoky flavored tosso, mustard seeds and a delightful house dressing.
Rillettes at Vic & Al\’s

The Cajun Rillette is hands down my favorite dish. The richly flavored pulled pork is on top of crunchy grilled ciabatta bread and finished with pickled vegetables, mustard seeds, thyme and a dash of habanero sauce for good measure.
BBQ Shrimp from Vic & Al\’s

The BBQ Shrimp are wild caught Gulf shrimp poached and served in a splendid mix of butter, rosemary, wine, lemon & garlic and served with toasted bread for dipping. This dish beautifully resurrects a recipe of the original Patrizi restaurant that Nic\’s grandfather and brothers established in Beaumont in the 1940s.
Cochon de Lait on Dirty Rice at Vic & Al\’s
Cochon de Lait is an earthy rich dish made with 6 different cuts of pork over perfectly cooked dirty rice.
Fried Boudin Balls at Vic & Al\’s
The fried Boudin Balls stuffed with rice and savory meats are on top of house made aioli and topped with chives.
Dark Roux Gumbo at Vic & Al\’s
The aromatic Gumbo is a dark roux gumbo with chicken, pork, okra, bay leaves and trinity spice served with a hearty piece of bread with a dash of hot sauce.
Chocolate Bread Pudding at Vic & Al\’s

The decadent chocolate bread pudding topped with lemon zest, boozy cherries and drizzled in butterscotch exquisitely punctuated the end of an incredible meal.
Check Vic & Al\’s social media sites to keep up with their current seasonal menu and hours. Brunch service is slated to being on April 24th.
