O.G. Chicken Sandwich at Tumble 22 – photo by Amy Drohen |
Full disclosure: I received a complimentary meal at Tumble 22 Hot Chicken. All opinions are my own.
Harold Marmulstein, the executive chef and owner of Austin\’s beloved Salty Sow, is opening an exciting new mobile food truck serving up Nashville style chicken! Tumble 22 Hot Chicken will be stationed at Fifth and Walsh streets in downtown Austin. Tumble 22 is slated to open May 8 and will feature a menu of chicken-fried specialties and has a fiery uniqueness that only Chef Harold can bring.
We previewed Tumble 22 and were thoroughly impressed with the blazing hot chicken and delightful sides. In preparation, hence the name, the chicken is tumbled 22 times.
Ordering is simple:
Step 1 – Choose your chicken
Step 2 – Pick a heat level
Step 3 – Enjoy your fiery goodness

Chicken Oysters at Tumble 22 – photo by Amy Drohen |
Customers may enjoy what are surely to become Tumble 22 favorites such as the O.G. Classic Sandwich made with all natural boneless chicken thigh topped with crisp kale slaw, bread-n-butter pickles and Duke\’s mayo. A couple of our favorites are the Chicken Tips with all natural white meat served with chicken fat fries and the perfectly crisp Chicken Oysters made with all natural dark meat. Heat levels vary from Wimpy, Hot, Dang Hot! and I double dare you to try Fire in the Hole!! Level of heat truly depends on individual taste however we preferred the Hot and Dang Hot. They offer 4 sauces that perfectly compliment the chicken to include Ranch, Sweet Chili Yogurt, Comeback Sauce and Cilantro Mint. We recommend the Sweet Chili Yogurt to pair with the more fiery heat levels.

Want something on the lighter side? The Caesar Salad made with crisp romaine and a classic garlic anchovy dressing with option to add tips or oysters is a perfect option. The Kale Coleslaw ($3) is also a phenomenal compliment to any meal.
