AFBA Happy Hour at RA Sushi

HOT MESS at RA Sushi

Full disclosure: I attended an AFBA happy hour and received complimentary samplings of apps and rolls. All opinions are my own.

Once a month the Austin Food Blogger Alliance gathers for a group happy hour sponsored by restaurants in our great city. The March 2016 #AFBAHH included one of my favorite food groups, sushi! The team at RA Sushi treated us to some of their most popular appetizers and rolls as we enjoyed happy hour cocktails. The event took place on a gorgeous afternoon on their incredible rooftop patio complete with skyline views.

Here are just some of the wonderful dishes we tried! Let\’s start with RA Sushi seasonal dishes:

\”RA \”CKIN Shrimp Tacos at RA Sushi

The \”RA\”CKIN Shrimp Tacos are back by popular demand! This seasonal menu item has perfectly cooked \”RA\”ckin\’ Shrimp, creamy coleslaw and zesty guacamole topped with ginger teriyaki sauce and red bell pepper served in a crispy gyoza shell.

Pacific Roll at RA Sushi

The tasty Pacific Roll is a fresh spicy mix of albacore and cucumber, rolled and topped with creamy avocado and a delightful mango salsa balanced nicely with red tempura bits and sautéed cashews plated with a sweet mango sauce.

When it comes to fusion rolls and delicate cuts of sashimi RA Sushi has you covered:

Well a HOT MESS (featured photo) never looked so good. The Hot Mess has crispy rice topped with a savory spicy king crab mix baked and finished with kick\’n jalapeños & cilantro topped with their signature dynamite sauce.
Mango Lobster Roll at RA Sushi
The Mango Lobster Roll has a splendid lobster mix, fresh avocado and cucumber rolled and topped with thinly sliced mango & mango tobiko plated with kiwi wasabi sauce.

\”RA\”CHIN\’ Roll at RA Sushi

I love all the creative bites that the kitchen rolled out to include the \”RA\”CKIN\’ Roll with rich crab and cream cheese rolled, lightly tempura battered and topped with guacamole and “RA”ckin’ Shrimp, drizzled with a creamy ginger teriyaki sauce, red tempura bits and togarashi. A true Tex Mex sushi fusion.

Viva Las Vegas Roll at RA Sushi

I am all shook up over the Viva Las Vegas Roll. This roll is over the top just like the amazing views for RA Sushi\’s rooftop patio. This roll has  crab and cream cheese rolled in rice and seaweed, lightly tempura battered and topped with spicy tuna, crab mix and a poppin sliced lotus root plated with sweet eel sauce and sprinkled with green tempura bits.

Chili Ponzu Yellowtail at RA Sushi

The next two dishes are two of my favorites. The vibrant Chili Ponzu Yellowtail has delicate cuts of butter  yellowtail topped with fresh jalapeños, cilantro and sautéed cashews and served with chili ponzu sauce.

\”RA\”llipop at RA Sushi

If you are a fan of sashimi you will love the \”RA\”llipop. This fresh sashimi style roll has tender cuts of tuna, salmon, yellowtail and spicy tuna mix with lettuce, asparagus and cucumber wrapped in lobok and served skewered with garlic ponzu sauce.

Crab & Avocado Roll at RA Sushi

RA Sushi knows how to keep it simple too with a nice variety of maki.

RA Sushi has tantalizing appetizers galore:

Pork Gyoza at RA Sushi

The sautéed Pork Gyoza with scallions and served with ponzu sauce is the perfect way to start a meal.

Shishito Peppers

Shishito peppers are all the rage and you will enjoy their version sautéed in Asian garlic butter sauce.

Spring Rolls at RA Sushi

I couldn\’t get enough of these crispy vegetable Spring Rolls served with spicy sesame mustard dipping sauce tagged playfully with \”RA\” in pepper sauce.
RA has some savory bites too:

\”RA\”CKIN\’ Shrimp at RA Sushi

You can find the signature “RA”CKIN’ Shrimp on several menu items but these tempura battered crispy shrimp are also good on their own served with ginger teriyaki dipping sauce.

Chicken Yakitori Skewers at RA Sushi
These glistening Chicken Yakitori skewers in a sake teriyaki sauce are served with sautéed onions and bell peppers.
In addition RA Sushi has some fabulous desserts to choose from to include fried ice cream, a rainbow of mochi served with fresh fruit and more. Thanks to the fantastic team at RA Sushi for their hospitality and sharing their sensation cuisine with us.
